Positive: Gorgeous location, one of the best beaches on the KZN South coast and wonderful mountain bike trail. The villa itself was nicely renovated and clean inside. The bed was comfy and the communal pool was well maintained :)
Negative: The first thing that strikes you upon arrival at San Lameer are the beautiful grounds. Sadly, the grubby terracota painted villas are crying out for a lick of new paint. This looks like the same paint that was used back in the 80s, which also coincides with the last time I visited the resort. The villa we stayed on, though beautifully renovated inside, lacked finishes like bins in the rooms and a table on which to put luggage bags. The kitchen didn't even have a workable can opener. One wonders if the owners have ever stayed in this villa for an extended period of time to have noticed. Also, the look out deck to the new beautiful San Lameer beach was sparce and dated. The staff had clearly done their duties well as the space was spotless. But understandably after cleaning the look out deck, they had nothing more to do and were sitting around playing on their phones. Dont get me wrong, Im not blaming the staff, I blame management or rather what appeared to be an absence thereof. San Lameer management would be well advised to consider having some indoor activities for those rainy days. The sparse look out deck could be better employed with a decent coffee machine, some inexpensive bean bags / couches with games or other creative suggestions to pass the time while waiting for the rain to clear. Finally, the wellness spa could have been so much better. The staff seemed very inexperienced. Requesting the price of a basic back and neck massage was tantamount to pulling teeth. First I was told to take a photo of the pricelist, barcoded on a wooden plaque on the reception table. After showing the receptionist that this did not work, he attempted to lookup the price on the system without any luck. I suggested he just print out some price lists to which he replied that "some customers steal them." Out of despair, I suggested that they simply stick the price list on the wall with some sticky tape or prestick...
Summary: San Lameer Management could do so much better.
